Religion and Government

This is a video clip of a CSPAN debate regarding the founding of the United States of
America, being a country where the government is neutral regarding religion (i.e. "separation of Church and State"). They also discuss a treaty drafted by George Washington in 1796 and sign by John Adams in 1797, which affirmed that the USA was not founded on the "Christian religion".

The treaty stated:
"As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion... it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinion shall ever produce aqn interruption of the harmony existing between the two countr4ies."
(Treaty of Tripoli Article XI 1796)
